Grand Prix Competition

Some of our members enjoy a little competition, so we organise an annual Grand Prix which is open to all our members.

Joining in the Grand Prix is optional for all members though we have always had amazing participation. The simple idea (unlike other clubs) is points are awarded for attendance only, not positions or times. To score points you just need to turn up and run (or volunteer to marshal in some cases).

Many of the Grand Prix events for 2020 are free, local or have an alternative to reduce barriers to getting involved. Following your feedback, we have included some trail races as they proved popular in 2019.  We’re again including some LGBT+ hosted events by other Frontrunner clubs and Northumberland Pride so keep an eye out for these trips (we hope to provide some form of transport too).

A quick note on parkruns

parkruns are free but do require runners to register prior to participating, and please include the club name when entering. Once registered you can participate in any parkrun. It is necessary to print off your bar code (or purchase a more durable barcode format from parkrun) and present at the end of each parkrun, or your run will not be registered. All parkruns start at 9am (except New Year’s Day) and are 5K in distance. Full details at

Other non-Grand Prix runs you might be interested in

In our new Members Portal, launched last year, we have an active group called “parkrun and other races“, where members post about other runs they are planning to do.  Many of these may take your fancy and it’s always good to know you’ll have company, and/or can share lifts.  Join the check it out regularly (you can set the alert level to tell you immediately, daily or weekly when new comments are added).
